About The Black Horse at Byworth

Situated just off the A283 between Petworth and Pulborough, the Black Horse Inn is a beautifully set country inn within the small hamlet of Byworth.

The Black Horse at Byworth...

Inside, this untouched 16th century Inn has the perfect Old World country look and feel. The front bar has a traditional atmosphere with its large fireplace, bare-board flooring and massive beams. It is separate from the restaurant and has an excellent selection of beer which changes regularly between the local breweries.

The interior of the pub has wattle and daub walls, hung with an eclectic range of original photographs and prints. Every nook and cranny holds an unlikely assortment of objects from a bygone age. The cosy restaurant was created from the old kitchen (with original range on display) and rear courtyard. This is the perfect place for small or larger groups of people to dine.

Upstairs is a beautiful function room with its own bar, looking out over the garden. The food is of the highest standard, using only the best fresh local produce. The regular menu is updated to reflect seasonal change, and the daily specials maximise the availability of local seafood from the South Coast.

To the rear of the premises the terraced garden and adjoining stream look out over a beautiful valley in the foothills of the South Downs. The view looks down upon layers of trees and flowers before spreading out into the fields.

In August 2007 Jeff Paddock became the proud owner and operator of the Black Horse Inn. As the driving force in his own kitchen Jeff demands excellence from his staff. His team aim to exceed their customers expectations with quality food and beverages and exceptional service.

So come and visit this wonderful survival of a traditional country inn. On a cold winters day you can be sure of a warm welcome and a roaring fire, and in the summer the beer garden is a fantastic place to enjoy a cold drink and the views of the West Sussex countryside.
